How an appliance repair company shows up in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI answers
Homeowners now ask AI who repairs Samsung refrigerators nearby. What those answers are built from, and the pages and profile fields that get an appliance repair shop named in them.
A homeowner types "who repairs LG washers in Plano and how much is the diagnostic" into ChatGPT. It answers with three shop names, a price range and a line about same-week scheduling. If your shop is not one of the three, you lost a call you never knew existed.
This is not a future problem. Google's AI Overviews already sit above the map pack on many appliance repair searches, and Perplexity and ChatGPT both run live web searches when the question is local. The good news is that what these systems pull from is mostly the same material that ranks you on Google already. The difference is how specific and quotable it has to be.
What the AI answer is built from
When an AI system answers a local question, it searches the web, reads a handful of pages, and composes an answer from the clearest statements it finds. For an appliance repair shop, those sources are, in rough order:
- Your Google Business Profile: name, categories, services, hours, reviews, Q&A
- Your website's service pages, if they state facts plainly
- Review text on Google, Yelp and Nextdoor
- Directory listings and manufacturer "find a servicer" pages
- Local news or community pages that mention you
The system prefers a sentence it can lift whole. "We repair Samsung, LG and Whirlpool refrigerators in Plano, Frisco and Allen. Diagnostic is $89, waived with repair. Most calls are seen within two business days." That paragraph can be quoted. "We are your trusted partner for all your appliance needs" cannot.
Write the facts an AI can quote
Go through the site and the profile and make sure each of these is stated in one plain sentence somewhere:
- Which appliances you repair, as a list
- Which brands, as a list, including whether you do sealed-system refrigerator work
- Which cities and zip codes
- The diagnostic fee and whether it is waived
- How soon you can come, as a typical range
- The labor warranty
- Whether you take home warranty claims
- Hours, including weekends
Put them on the home page and repeat the appliance-specific ones on each appliance page. A refrigerator page should say "refrigerator" and the brands in the first 100 words. The website guide covers page structure.
Structured data that labels the facts
Add LocalBusiness schema to the site with your name, address, phone, hours, service area and a list of services. Add FAQPage schema to the questions on each appliance page. Schema does not rank you by itself, but it removes ambiguity: the system reads "priceRange: $89 diagnostic" and "areaServed: Plano, Frisco, Allen" as labeled facts instead of guessing from prose. Google documents the LocalBusiness markup it reads.
Keep the name, address and phone identical across the site, the profile, Yelp and every directory. AI systems reconcile sources by matching those three; a different phone number on Yelp splits you into two weaker entities.
Reviews are a source, so steer what they say
AI answers quote reviews. A review that says "great service" tells the system nothing. A review that says "fixed our Samsung fridge that was not cooling, same day, $240 all in" tells it the brand, the fault, the speed and the price. You cannot write reviews for customers, but the kitchen ask can nudge the content: "If you mention what we fixed and how fast, it helps other people with the same problem find us." The reviews guide has the full script.
Volume matters here too. 35.3% of appliance repair companies have fewer than 10 reviews. An AI system asked for a recommendation leans on the shops with enough review text to characterize.
Answer the questions people actually ask AI
Add a short FAQ to each appliance page with the questions a homeowner types into ChatGPT:
- Is it worth repairing a 10-year-old refrigerator? (Give a rule: if the repair is under half the replacement cost and the fridge is under 12 years, usually yes.)
- Why is my dryer running but not heating? (Element, thermal fuse, or gas igniter; parts $20 to $80; repair $150 to $280.)
- How much does a dishwasher pump replacement cost? ($200 to $350 installed, typical.)
- Do you repair Samsung refrigerators? (Yes, including sealed-system work.)
Each answer should be two to four sentences with a number in it. These are the exact passages that get lifted into AI answers, and they rank in regular Google search as well.
Check what the AI says about you now
Once a month, ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google (with AI Overview on) a handful of real questions: "appliance repair in [your city]", "[brand] refrigerator repair near [your city]", "how much is an appliance diagnostic in [your city]". Note who gets named and what facts the answer uses. If a competitor is named and you are not, read their site and see which plain statements they made that you did not. Usually it is the price and the brand list.
Make sure your site is not blocking AI crawlers in robots.txt. Some website builders add rules that block GPTBot and PerplexityBot by default. If they cannot read the page, they cannot quote it.
Frequently asked
Do I need to pay for a tool to get into AI answers? No. The tools that promise "AI visibility" mostly check the same prompts you can type yourself. The work is writing plain facts on your own pages and keeping the profile complete. There is nothing to submit and nowhere to register.
Will this replace Google search for my trade? Not soon. The emergency refrigerator call still mostly comes from Google and the map pack. AI answers are growing fastest on the research questions: repair versus replace, what a repair costs, which brands are serviceable. Those are the calls that turn into bigger tickets, so they are worth showing up for.
How long before changes show up in AI answers? AI systems that search live can reflect a page change within days. Google's AI Overview follows normal indexing, which can take a few weeks. Check the benchmark report to see how far your profile is from the pack while you wait.
