Google Business Profile for appliance repair: categories, services, photos and the fields nobody fills in
How to set up and maintain a Google Business Profile for an appliance repair company so it ranks for refrigerator, washer and dryer searches and converts the caller.
Your Google Business Profile is the only page most homeowners will ever see of your company. They search "dryer repair near me", three listings appear, and they call one. Whether that is you depends on about a dozen fields that take an afternoon to fill in properly. 48.2% of appliance repair companies have not even posted hours. The bar is low.
Primary category and the secondary ones that count
Set the primary category to "Appliance repair service". That is the category Google ranks for the generic searches. Then add secondaries for the work you actually do: "Washer & dryer repair service", "Refrigerator repair service", "Small appliance repair service" if you touch them, and "Appliance parts supplier" only if you sell parts to the public.
Do not add "Electrician" or "Plumber" because you occasionally replace a cord. Google uses categories to decide what you are, and a listing that claims five trades ranks for none. Google's own category guidance says to describe what the business is, not everything it does.
Services: one entry per appliance, with a price
The Services section is where the appliance-specific searches get matched. Add each as its own service with a short description and a starting price:
- Refrigerator repair, from $89 diagnostic (waived with repair)
- Washer repair, from $89
- Dryer repair, from $89
- Dishwasher repair, from $89
- Oven and range repair, from $99
- Microwave repair (built-in only), from $99
- Ice maker repair, from $89
- Dryer vent cleaning, $120 to $180
Write the brands you service into the descriptions: "Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, GE, Maytag, Bosch, KitchenAid". Brand plus appliance is one of the highest-intent searches in this trade, and Google reads the service descriptions.
The price field is optional. Fill it. A listing that shows "$89 diagnostic" next to two listings that show nothing gets the call from a homeowner who was going to ask anyway. The pricing guide explains how to present the fee.
Hours, including the Saturday you already work
48.2% of the trade posts no hours. 35.3% show Saturday hours and 24.1% show Sunday. If your techs run Saturdays, say so. A listing that shows "Closed" on a Saturday morning loses the warm-refrigerator call to whoever shows "Open".
Set hours to when the phone is answered, not when the van is moving. If dispatch picks up from 7 a.m. and the last tech finishes at 6 p.m., post 7 to 6. Do not claim 24 hours unless a human answers at 2 a.m.; 7.9% of listings claim it and most are routing to voicemail. Google lets you set "more hours" for specific services if emergency refrigerator calls are handled differently from scheduled dishwasher work.
Photos that show the van, the tech and the parts
92.7% of listings have a photo, so having one does not help. Having the right twenty does. Upload:
- The van, lettered, parked in a driveway (not a stock image of a van)
- Two or three techs in branded shirts, in a real kitchen
- The parts shelf in the van or shop, which signals "we carry it, one trip"
- Before and after of a repair that looks like something: a dryer drum with a failed bearing, a fridge coil choked with dust
- The logo as the profile image, a wide shot of the van as the cover
Add three to five new photos a month. Google notices profile activity, and homeowners notice a photo dated last week over one from 2021.
Posts, Q&A and the description
Posts are low effort and few appliance shops use them. One a week: "Dryer not heating? Most common cause is a $40 element. Same-week appointments this week in [city]." Include a call button. Posts expire from the main view after a week, which is fine; the point is activity.
Seed the Q&A section yourself. Ask and answer the five questions every caller has:
- Do you charge a diagnostic fee? "Yes, $89, waived when you go ahead with the repair."
- Do you service Samsung and LG? "Yes, both, including sealed-system work on refrigerators."
- How soon can you come? "Most calls are seen within two business days, often next day."
- Do you work on commercial equipment? "No, residential only."
- Is there a warranty on the repair? "90 days on labor, parts carry the manufacturer warranty."
The business description gets 750 characters. Use them for the city, the appliances, the brands and the fee. Skip the mission statement.
The attributes and the fields that look small
Tick "Online estimates", "Repair services" and any accessibility or ownership attributes that apply. Add the service area as the cities and zip codes you actually drive to, not the whole state; Google rewards tight service areas for ranking in those cities. Add the website link to the page that matches the profile, usually the home page, and use a UTM tag so you can see profile traffic in analytics.
Publish an email if you want property manager and warranty work. Only 19.1% of appliance repair listings do, and those are the customers who send work orders by email.
Frequently asked
Should I make a separate profile for each city I serve? Only if you have a real staffed location there. One profile with a service area is the compliant setup. Shops that create fake addresses for extra listings get suspended, and the suspension can take weeks to appeal while the phone goes quiet.
My profile got suspended. What now? Usually a category change, an address edit or a name that includes keywords ("Best Refrigerator Repair Dallas") triggers it. Reinstate through Google's form with proof of the business: a utility bill, your van photo, your license if your state has one. Fix the name to the legal name first.
How long until profile changes affect ranking? Category and service changes show in search within a few days. Reviews and photos compound over weeks. Check the benchmark report for the review count you are chasing in your state, then pair this setup with the reviews guide.
